Tonbridge Angels were left frustrated after a dominant performance ended in a 2–2 draw against promotion contenders Dorking Wanderers on a bitterly cold afternoon.
Despite controlling much of the match, the Angels fell behind early when Patrick Casey scored from close range on 11 minutes. Tonbridge responded positively and were rewarded shortly before half-time when Bailey Akehurst converted a 44th-minute penalty, following a foul on Frankie Baker in the area.
The home side continued to press after the break but were caught out on 68 minutes when James McShane bundled the ball home after an effort was initially cleared from the line. Tonbridge responded swiftly, levelling the score five minutes later when a corner caused chaos in the six-yard box and Tom Leahy reacted quickest to fire home on 73 minutes.
The Angels pushed hard for a late winner and appealed for a penalty deep into stoppage time, but the referee waved play on, leaving the home side to settle for a share of the points.
After the match, manager Alan Dunne said: “We have dominated the game… tactically we got it right, but if you don’t put the ball in the net you leave yourselves open.”
