Six Generations in the Making: The Family Story Behind Turvins Farm Shop

Just off Sundridge Road near Sevenoaks, Turvins Farm Shop sells seasonal fruit and veg, home-reared British White beef and British cheese from a smart, newly built timber-clad building looking out over the family's own cattle. It's a genuinely new addition to the area, having opened its doors this summer - but the farm itself has been in the same family for more than 130 years.

The Westacott family, since 1892

The farm's story starts with Walter and Mary Westacott, who moved from Devon in 1892 and made Turvins Farm Dairy their home, building a mixed farming business around beef cattle, sheep and cereals. In the 1960s, John and Jean Westacott took the farm into its next era, and during the 1970s and '80s the family expanded the land it farmed across the Chevening Estate - land the family still farms today. In 2010, William and Carolyn Westacott moved the dairy herd to a new yard, freeing up the old buildings for what the farm would become next.

From dairy yard to farm shop

That next chapter began in 2020, when Josh and Ellie Westacott started looking for a way to diversify the family farm while keeping the land farmed well into the future. COVID slowed the building work, but the plan never changed - and this year, the old dairy buildings reopened as Turvins Farm Shop, selling the farm's own beef alongside fresh produce, British cheese and gifts from trusted local growers and producers.
The family says the arrival of a sixth generation of Westacotts in 2025 makes life on the farm busier than ever - but it's also exactly the point: a new generation growing up around the fields, cattle and countryside that have shaped the family's story for over 130 years.
