Tucked Away on an Industrial Estate, Valerie's Café Is Paddock Wood's Newest Family-Run Find

Paddock Wood has a new independent café, and it's not somewhere you'd stumble on by accident. Valerie's Café opened in September on the Transfesa Trading Estate off Henley Road - a working industrial estate about a three-minute walk from Paddock Wood station - serving freshly cooked breakfasts, lunches, cakes and coffee to a trickle of regulars who've found their way in since.

Trading estates aren't known for their cafés, which makes Valerie's something of a find for anyone working nearby or passing through. There's free customer parking on site, which matters on an estate like this, and the café has quickly become a stop for local tradespeople and office workers as much as anyone wandering over from the town centre. Announcing the opening on Instagram, the team behind it wrote: "We're officially open! Welcome to Valerie's Café - a new family-run café in Paddock Wood. We're serving freshly cooked breakfasts, lunches, hot & cold drinks." It's open Monday to Saturday, 7am to 3pm, with the kitchen closing at 2.30pm.

The café's focus is squarely on freshly cooked food rather than a long menu of options: full breakfasts, home-made cakes, and hot and cold drinks from a barista-run coffee machine. Lunch specials have included a lamb curry served with a choice of rice or chips and a fresh side salad - more ambitious than the sandwich-and-crisps fare trading estates usually run on. The café has also started supplying custom sandwich trays to local businesses - a sensible sideline for a café sitting in the middle of a trading estate full of them, and a sign the owners are thinking about who's actually around to feed.

With the café barely a month old, reviews are still trickling in rather than piling up, but what's there so far is positive - comfortably above four stars across Facebook and Google, with customers singling out the family-run feel and friendly service. For a café with no passing trade to speak of, that kind of early word of mouth matters more than most.
