The Hutch Deli and Cafe: The A25 Hideaway Built Out of an Old Ightham Farm Shop

If you drive the A25 through Ightham between Seal and Borough Green without stopping, there's a good chance you've gone straight past The Hutch Deli and Cafe without clocking it's there - small-looking from the road, next to a dog groomer. One recent visitor described it as a "delightful little - or, as we discovered, not so little - place" after finding a flyer and deciding to seek it out.

From farm shop to cafe

The site has a bit of history: it's registered with the Food Standards Agency as Ightham Farm Shop, and regulars say that's exactly what it used to be. One review from September 2026 describes being "surprised by the recent makeover, with the farm shop disappearing and a grown-up style cafe emerging" in its place - small out front, but extending into what another visitor calls "a beautiful conservatory with much more seating" round the back.

What it's about

The Hutch describes itself as "a beautiful floral cafe with enclosed heated terrace" - open for eat-in or takeaway, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 3pm, closed Sundays. Afternoon teas are the headline offer, alongside breakfast, brunch and lunch, outside catering, event and exclusive hire bookings, and a welcome for dogs that a lot of cafes still don't extend. Its food hygiene rating, last checked in December 2025, came back a clean 5 ("Very Good") across the board - food hygiene and safety, structural compliance, and confidence in management all scoring top marks.

What people make of it

It's rated 4.9 out of 5 on Tripadvisor from 38 reviews - currently the second-best-rated of Ightham's four restaurants - with diners repeatedly naming owner Violeta and her staff for the welcome as much as the food. One reviewer describes bringing a 37-strong U3A group in for a private room, recommending the Albanian chicken stew; others single out the Eggs Royale, French toast and apple slice. The Hutch's Facebook page backs that up with genuine day-to-day activity rather than occasional posts - a following of over 1,100 and photos going up within the hour of being taken.
