5,000 Handmade Poppies Cascade Down Snodland Clocktower for Remembrance

A striking cascade of handmade poppies now flows down Snodland Clocktower, as the town prepares to mark Remembrance Sunday on 8 November.

How it came together

Snodland Town Council had the idea for the display and approached Snodland Ladies Club to see if they'd take on the challenge. The club jumped at it, knitting, crocheting and felting poppies alongside other volunteers including the Crafties Group - more than 5,000 poppies in total. The netting they're attached to is 29 feet (9 metres) long, with the cascade at its widest reaching 10 feet (3 metres). Snodland Ladies Club then took on the job of sewing each individual poppy into place by hand.
The council thanked the volunteers involved, as well as LTSE Production for helping bring the display to life, and is encouraging anyone passing the Clocktower to pause and take it in. "The project is a tribute remembering those who served and sacrificed," the council said. "We will remember them."
