Run Kent Returns to Tonbridge: Nearly 1,850 Runners Take on Half Marathon, 10k and 5k

Run Kent's road-closed half marathon, 10k and 5k returned to Tonbridge on Sunday, with 1,844 runners crossing the finish line at The Judd School across the three distances - and local club Tonbridge Athletic Club taking the headline wins.

A good day for the home club

Thomas Lockhart led the half marathon home in 1:13:32, with clubmate Elizabeth Owen winning the women's race in 1:21:28 - both running for Tonbridge Athletic Club. The club also took the 5k women's title through Caroline McAughtry, who won in 19:24. In the 10k, the wins went further afield: Will Isted (Crowborough Runners) took the men's race in 35:40, with Tori Day first woman home in 38:39. Ian Russell won the 5k outright in 18:22.

By the numbers

The half marathon was comfortably the biggest field of the day with 1,148 finishers, followed by 529 in the 10k and 167 in the 5k. All three routes started and finished at The Judd School on Brook Street, following a certified, hilly course out into the surrounding Kent countryside, organised in partnership with Tonbridge Rotary Club and Tonbridge Lions. Runners had partly cloudy conditions and a temperature of around 14°C to race in.

Running for Demelza

This year's official charity partner was Demelza, the children's hospice serving Kent, south-east London and East Sussex, with runners able to join "Team Demelza" for discounted entry and fundraising support in return for raising money for the charity's care of children and young people with serious or life-limiting conditions.
