Torquay United 1-1 Maidstone United
National League South | Plainmoor | Saturday, 24th October 2026
Torquay United: Frankie Hvid (27' og)
Maidstone United: Frankie Hvid (84')
It was not the afternoon Frankie Hvid will have pictured on the long trip down to Devon, but it ended with him as the match's unlikely central figure both ways. Twenty-seven minutes in, the defender tried to clear a low ball into the box and could only divert it up and over his own goalkeeper, gifting Torquay the lead. Four minutes later Maidstone were nearly two down, but Lenny Holden guessed correctly and dived low to his left to keep out Cody Cooke's penalty, awarded after George Fowler was judged to have brought down Matt Jay.
Holden's save kept the Stones in the game through a half they did not dominate, and the breakthrough, when it came, fell to the one man desperate to make amends. With six minutes left, Riley Court's cross was sliced up into the air off a Torquay defender and dropped for Hvid, who nodded it home to level the match and send the travelling end into relief as much as celebration. Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages, and the point was enough to keep Maidstone top of National League South, though Ebbsfleet United's own win elsewhere means the gap at the summit stays tight.
