Maidstone's Remembrance Sunday Parade Returns 8 November - Here's Which Roads Will Be Closed, and When

Maidstone comes together on Sunday 8 November to remember those who have lost their lives, or been affected by conflict, at the town's annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service - and if you're driving through the town centre that morning, it's worth knowing the route now rather than finding out the hard way.

How the morning runs

The parade sets off at 10.30am from the junction of Week Street and the High Street, making its way to the War Memorial on The Broadway. The Service of Remembrance begins at 10.50am, followed by the two-minute silence at 11am and the laying of wreaths. Around 11.15am, the parade heads back to the High Street, where the salute is taken once more, before dispersing via Week Street.

Who's taking the salute

The Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Brian Clark, will be joined this year by Lt Col Sean Parr RE, Commanding Officer of the 36 Engineer Regiment and The Queen's Gurkha Engineers, to take the salute from the parade. Cllr David Naghi, the council's Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Safety, said: "Remembrance Sunday gives us an opportunity to come together as a community and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have given their lives, and continue to serve. It is an important tradition for Maidstone to remember and pay their respects."

The roads to avoid

Rolling road closures will be in place along the route between 9.45am and 12.30pm, reopening as the procession passes. The Broadway, London Road, Rocky Hill, Tonbridge Road and St Peter's Street will be among the worst affected, and closures right around the War Memorial itself are likely to stay in place from at least 10.30am to 11.30am. The council's advice is simple: if you need to get through the town centre that morning, build in extra time.
