Gorringe's Auction House Moves Tunbridge Wells Office to Mount Ephraim

Gorringe's, the fine art, antiques and jewellery auction house, has moved its Tunbridge Wells valuations office a short distance from Grosvenor House in Grosvenor Park to a new base on Mount Ephraim - the latest step in an expansion of its Kent operations.

Nearly 30 years in Tunbridge Wells

Gorringe's has had a presence in Tunbridge Wells for close to three decades, offering valuations to collectors across Kent and the Weald. The firm itself dates back to 1929, when Roland Gorringe founded it in Lewes, East Sussex, where its main saleroom still operates. In 2025 the Gorringe family became outright owners of the business again, after buying out its former managing partners, with Oliver Searle - Roland Gorringe's great-grandson - taking on the role of executive director.

What's changing

The new Mount Ephraim premises have been designed with a waiting room and a private room for confidential valuations, along with free parking - a point the firm highlighted given the building's position on the busy A264, close to its junction with the A26 London Road. The move comes alongside an expansion of Gorringe's valuations team, with new specialists added covering paintings, jewellery, books and manuscripts, and fine wine and spirits. The Kent office continues to be led by Tom Blest, auctioneer and head of valuations for Kent, who joined the firm in 2025.

Why it matters

Oliver Searle said the move reflected a broader ambition for the firm: "We're investing in people, expertise and places, so that Gorringe's can stand alongside the country's finest auction houses. Our new Tunbridge Wells office is the next step." Gorringe's holds more than 60 sales a year from its Lewes saleroom, covering fine art, furniture, jewellery, silver, watches, ceramics, Asian art, wine and spirits, and books and manuscripts, alongside a weekly house-clearance sale. The Tunbridge Wells office is open for valuations on Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays, with home visits available across Kent and Sussex.
