Edenbridge Town Council's First-Ever Apprentice Qualifies and Joins the Grounds Team Full-Time

Edenbridge Town Council's first-ever apprentice, Kai Day, has completed his qualification and will continue his career as a full member of the council's Grounds Team, the council announced this month.

Two years learning the job

Kai joined the council in 2023 as a Level 2 Horticultural Operative apprentice, studying at Plumpton College while gaining hands-on experience across Edenbridge's parks, playgrounds, sports pitches, Millennium Wood and cemeteries. Along the way he picked up a chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting licence and a chemical spraying licence, alongside the day-to-day skills of grass cutting, planting and pitch maintenance.
"I'm very happy to have finished this qualification and couldn't have done it without the support of the council's Facilities Manager, Craig Open," Kai said. "I'm looking forward to carrying on my role and even the possibility of furthering my education." Town Clerk Caroline Leet said the council was "incredibly pleased to see Kai successfully complete his apprenticeship," adding that his progress "shows the value apprenticeships can bring both to young people starting their careers and to organisations like ours."
