Tesco and Oliver Bonas Confirmed for Sevenoaks' New Chandlers Place Development

A 107-flat development nearing completion on Sevenoaks High Street has confirmed its two ground-floor shops: Tesco and clothing and homeware retailer Oliver Bonas.

Chandlers Place is built by Purelake Group and marketed by Savills, occupying a prime position on the High Street. Announcing the news on its own blog, Purelake said: "We are thrilled to announce that Tesco and Oliver Bonas will be taking up the flagship commercial units on the ground floor of our prestigious new Sevenoaks development, Chandlers Place, as it nears final completion." The developer added that the site's three blocks, across four to five storeys, will give many buyers "spectacular, panoramic views over the historic market town and the surrounding Kent countryside."

The 107 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments feature open-plan layouts, with most including private outdoor space. Prices start from £327,500. Purelake said it is "on track to complete construction shortly" and that the development has "already captured immense interest from a diverse mix of buyers, from those taking their first step onto the property ladder to downsizers." Abbe Hall, head of residential development sales in Kent and Sussex at marketing agent Savills, added: "With Tesco and Oliver Bonas confirmed as the commercial occupants at the development, we expect further interest in the remaining units."

Chandlers Place isn't new to the High Street so much as it's come full circle. The site was previously home to a Tesco Metro, which closed for the last time in October 2018 after the retailer decided not to renew its lease. Site owner Freshwater secured planning permission in May 2021 for a £40m redevelopment - demolishing the old supermarket building to make way for the apartment blocks, new retail units and a public route through to the Kaleidoscope Arts Centre. More than seven years after the old Tesco shut its doors, shoppers on the High Street will soon have one back.
