Residents using leisure centres in Tunbridge Wells, Paddock Wood and Cranbrook will notice a change from today as all three facilities officially come under new management.
From 1 July, the centres are being operated by Serco Leisure in partnership with Leisure Solutions Community Trust (LSCT), with the sites now becoming part of the MORE Leisure network.
For most visitors, day-to-day activities such as swimming, gym sessions, fitness classes and children's lessons are expected to continue as normal. However, the new management also brings long-term plans to modernise the facilities over the coming years.
One of the biggest commitments is an £8 million investment programme that will be delivered throughout the seven-year contract. The funding will be shared between Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and the new operator and is intended to improve equipment, facilities and the overall experience for visitors.
The first phase of work, worth around £750,000, is expected to begin soon. Planned improvements include new gym equipment and the introduction of AI-assisted pool safety technology known as Lynxight.
The system is designed to support lifeguards by monitoring activity in the pool and sending immediate alerts to smartwatches if it detects a swimmer who may need assistance. The technology does not replace lifeguards but provides an additional layer of safety, helping staff respond more quickly in an emergency.
The investment is part of wider efforts to keep the borough's leisure centres up to date and encourage more people to make use of local sports and fitness facilities.
Residents who already use the centres are advised to check directly with their local venue for any updates relating to memberships, bookings or opening arrangements during the transition.
