Horsham 0-1 Tonbridge Angels
National League South | Fusion Aviation Community Stadium | Saturday 14th March 2026 | Attendance: 1468
Tonbridge Angels: E. Sutcliffe (91')
Tonbridge Angels secured a crucial 1–0 victory away at Horsham thanks to a late header from Ethan Sutcliffe, a result that all but guarantees their place in the National League South for next season.
The match began as a tight and cautious affair, with both sides struggling to create clear chances. Early in the game, Angels captain Scott Wagstaff received a yellow card for a foul in the 14th minute, which briefly sparked Horsham into life. Greg Luer delivered several dangerous crosses into the penalty area, but Angels goalkeeper Matt Rowley dealt with them confidently.
Tonbridge found it difficult to break through Horsham’s defence during the first half, failing to seriously test former Angel Lewis Carey in goal. Both teams defended well, blocking and deflecting attempts as the match remained goalless at the break.
Manager Alan Dunne made two substitutions at half-time, bringing on Frankie Baker and Bradley Williams. The changes added energy to the Angels attack, and Tonbridge began applying more pressure. Baker and Alfie Pavey both forced saves from Carey, though neither effort troubled the Horsham keeper too much.
The game took a dramatic turn with around 15 minutes remaining when Horsham captain Jack Brivio, another former Angel, suffered a head injury following a clash with Pavey. During the incident, Horsham manager Dominic Di Paola was sent off after refusing to leave the pitch, adding to the disruption for the home side.
With 12 minutes of stoppage time added, Tonbridge continued to push forward. Their persistence paid off when Ethan Sutcliffe rose in the penalty area to head home a deflected ball from an Akehurst corner, giving the visitors a decisive late lead.
Horsham searched for an equaliser in the closing minutes, but the Angels defence held firm to secure all three points.
After the match, manager Alan Dunne said: It was a difficult game, a scratchy game. There was very little in it and I thought one goal would win it, which it did. In the end, overall, I think we deserved it.
The win moves Tonbridge another step closer to safety, with survival in the National League South now almost assured.
