A major community redevelopment in Park Wood has now been completed, bringing a new community centre, sports facilities and family homes to the former Heather House site.
Maidstone Borough Council and Chartway Group have confirmed the completion of the project, which has transformed the site into a modern community space now known as The Heathers. The development replaces the original Heather House building, which dated back to 1972, with a new purpose-built centre designed for local groups, sports activities, events and wider community use.
The new facility includes flexible indoor space, improved public areas and dedicated parking. It is expected to become an important local hub for residents in Park Wood and the surrounding area.
Alongside the community centre, the redevelopment has also delivered 11 new family homes, made up of three and four-bedroom properties. Four of these homes are being made available through the Government’s First Homes scheme, which offers eligible local buyers a discount of 30% below market value.
The site has also become the long-term home of Weavering Warriors RFC, who will operate The Heathers and help open it up for wider community use. The club says it wants the centre to support not only rugby, but a broad range of activities that bring local people together.
Maidstone Borough Council has described the project as part of its wider work to improve neighbourhood facilities, regenerate important community assets and support the delivery of homes for local people.
The previous buildings were demolished in late 2023, with construction progressing since then. The completed development has now been officially opened by the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Brian Clark.
Residents and local groups interested in using the new space are advised to contact Weavering Warriors RFC.
