Stoppage-Time Hanson Strike Snatches Dramatic Win for Maidstone United

Maidstone United 2-1 Salisbury

National League South | Gallagher Stadium | Saturday 29th August 2026
Maidstone United: Riley Court (43'), Ryan Hanson (90+3')
Salisbury: Jordan Alonge (29')
Maidstone United secured a dramatic late victory over Salisbury, coming from behind and overcoming a numerical disadvantage before a stoppage-time strike from Ryan Hanson settled the contest in the Stones' favour. The result will be a welcome boost for supporters at the Gallagher Stadium, given how laboured the home side looked for large periods of the match.
The Stones struggled to find their rhythm in the opening exchanges despite carving out early sight of goal through Tom Leahy and Leone Gravata, whose cross narrowly evaded Riley Court. It was Salisbury who grew into the game, and their pressure told on 29 minutes when Jaiden Bartolo's header cannoned down off the bar for Jordan Alonge to bundle home from close range and put the visitors ahead.
Maidstone's response was swift, however. Two minutes before the interval, George Fowler's blocked effort fell kindly for Court, who showed composure to leave goalkeeper Will Henry stranded and slot home the equaliser to send the sides in level at the break.

Man Advantage Proves Hard to Exploit

The complexion of the game changed just five minutes into the second half when Salisbury were reduced to ten men, Bartolo shown a second yellow card for catching Leo Hamblin. Despite the extra man, Maidstone found it difficult to unlock a well-organised Whites defence, with Hanson's goal-bound effort cruelly cannoning back off the post rather than nestling in the net on 58 minutes.
With the game seemingly destined for a share of the spoils, Maidstone conjured a dramatic late winner. In the third minute of stoppage time, a long ball forward from Frankie Hvid forced Henry into a rash dash from his goal, and when the goalkeeper could only clear as far as Hanson, the midfielder lofted a delightful finish from 25 yards into an unguarded net to send the home crowd into raptures.
Salisbury's afternoon went from bad to worse in the closing seconds when substitute Yacou Traore was shown a second yellow card for felling fellow substitute Rowan Gravenell-James just outside the box, leaving the visitors to finish the match with nine men. Court's resulting free-kick narrowly cleared the bar with the last kick of the game, but by then the damage had already been done as Maidstone held on for a hard-fought three points.
