£260,000 Grant Will Link Sevenoaks Station, Bus Station and High Street With New Signs

Sevenoaks is getting a new network of wayfinding signs after the Town Council secured a £260,000 grant from Kent County Council, working with the Sevenoaks Town Team partnership of local authorities, transport providers, businesses and community groups.

Where the money comes from

The grant comes through Kent County Council's Local Bus Intervention Grant, itself funded by Bus Service Improvement Plan money awarded to KCC under the Government's National Bus Strategy - so the scheme's origins are about getting more people onto buses and trains, not just tidying up street clutter. The Town Council is adding £51,225 of its own match funding, bringing the total project cost to £311,225.

What it will connect

The new signs will cover the town centre, station approaches and key bus stops, with routes planned linking the High Street, London Road, Sevenoaks Bus Station and Sevenoaks Railway Station, and extending out towards Bat & Ball, Knole Park and other community destinations. The aim is to make it obvious, on foot, how to get between a bus, a train and wherever you're actually going - including the shops, businesses and attractions along the way.

Built around accessibility

The Town Council says accessibility is central to the design, with proposals for large fonts, high-contrast colours and clear iconography, and sign heights and positioning chosen with wheelchair users and people with visual impairments in mind. No installation timetable has been published yet.

The Council's view

Mayor of Sevenoaks Cllr Victoria Granville said: "We are delighted that this essential infrastructure will benefit Sevenoaks residents and visitors.
