Sevenoaks Vine Fall to Blackheath Despite Richards and Garrett Rescue Effort

Sevenoaks Vine suffered a six-wicket defeat away to Blackheath CC in the Kent Cricket League after a difficult afternoon with the bat left them defending a modest total of 138.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Sevenoaks found themselves under pressure almost immediately as Blackheath's bowlers made regular breakthroughs throughout the innings.
Christopher Vernon was dismissed for 7, while Nick Compton made 9 and Luke Schlemmer added 5. Bradley Hope and Harry Bevan-Thomas both scored 5 as Sevenoaks slipped to 34-4. Further wickets followed quickly, with Will House contributing 5, Henry Procter 4 and Milo Denny 2, leaving the visitors in serious trouble at 51-8.
At that stage, a three-figure total looked far from certain. However, George Garrett and Tom Richards produced the partnership of the innings to revive Sevenoaks' hopes. Garrett occupied the crease for 79 deliveries to score 32, while Richards led the recovery with a well-crafted 51 from 74 balls, including three boundaries and a six.
Their efforts helped Sevenoaks reach 138 before the innings ended in the 46th over.
Blackheath's bowling attack shared the wickets effectively. Niaz Khan, Arafat Bhuiyan and Jahid Ahmed each claimed three wickets, while Hassan Khokhar picked up the final dismissal.
The hosts then completed the chase with four wickets down, reaching 139-4 in 27.3 overs to secure an 18-point victory.
After four rounds of fixtures, Sevenoaks Vine sit seventh in the league standings on 33 points, having recorded one win and three defeats. Blackheath remain firmly in the upper reaches of the table with 59 points from their opening four matches.
While the result went against Sevenoaks, the resistance shown by Richards and Garrett prevented what could have been a significantly lower total and provided one of the few bright spots from a challenging afternoon.
