Sevenoaks Restaurant Shwen Shwen Earns Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026

Shwen Shwen has officially become one of Kent’s standout food destinations after earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2026 Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland.

The award places the Sevenoaks restaurant among a carefully selected group of eateries recognised not just for quality cooking, but for offering exceptional food at a price that still feels accessible. In the restaurant world, the Bib Gourmand is often seen as one of Michelin’s most exciting recognitions because it highlights places diners genuinely want to come back to again and again.

Located on Bank Street in the heart of Sevenoaks, Shwen Shwen has built a growing reputation for bringing vibrant West African flavours to Kent. The restaurant is led by self-taught Sierra Leonean chef Maria Bradford, whose cooking blends bold spices, colourful presentation and sharing-style dishes inspired by her heritage and travels.

In its 2026 guide, Michelin described the restaurant as “colourful, unfussy and joyous,” praising both the atmosphere and the food. Inspectors highlighted the warm-toned interior and black-and-white photography depicting scenes from West Africa, creating what they called the perfect backdrop for Bradford’s “generous, vibrantly flavoured food.”

Several dishes particularly caught the attention of Michelin inspectors, including the spatchcock poussin served with palm butter sauce, which the guide said delivered “an invigorating kick.” The restaurant’s meltingly tender beef short rib in a rich groundnut and coconut sauce was also singled out as a standout example of the kitchen’s approach to flavour.

Part of Shwen Shwen’s appeal is its balance between quality and accessibility. While the tasting menu offers a full experience for adventurous diners, Michelin also noted that excellent value can be found by sharing plates from the à la carte menu.

The recognition is another positive moment for Sevenoaks’ growing independent food scene, showing that smaller regional towns are increasingly competing with major cities when it comes to exciting dining experiences.
