Drivers in Sevenoaks are being warned of a temporary road closure affecting part of Pembroke Road, as construction work continues on a major new development in the town centre.
The top section of Pembroke Road, near the High Street, is currently closed with no access from that direction. The restriction is expected to remain in place until 1st May.
Motorists can still reach properties along the road via the lower end from London Road, but some delays are likely. Anyone with appointments in the area is being advised to leave extra time to avoid arriving late.
Linked to new town centre project
The closure is connected to ongoing works at Nine Pembroke Road, a significant office and retail development taking shape in a central location.
The project is set to deliver modern Grade A office space aimed at small to medium-sized businesses, alongside ground floor retail units. Plans highlight flexible, open layouts, strong natural light, and features such as air conditioning, showers, and secure storage.
While official details describe space arranged across multiple levels, early visualisations suggest a larger-scale building than initially expected, pointing to a substantial addition to the town centre.
Construction is ongoing, with completion currently targeted for 2027.
Disruption now, questions later
Closures like this are never ideal, especially in a busy area where access is already tight. For local residents, businesses, and visitors, even a short-term change like this can be frustrating.
At the same time, developments of this scale usually mean investment and potential growth. The real impact will depend on what follows - whether it brings more business activity and jobs, or simply adds pressure to already busy roads and parking.
For now, the advice is simple: avoid the High Street entrance to Pembroke Road, use the London Road access instead, and expect your journey to take a bit longer than usual.
