Maidstone United Women Hit Nine as Fixture Switch Pays Off

Maidstone United Women put their FA Cup exit at Tooting Bec behind them in emphatic style on Sunday, thrashing Sporting London East Benfica 9-0 at the Gallagher Stadium - a scoreline the club itself led with, describing it simply as "today's 9-0 win" in its post-match reaction.

The game wasn't originally due to be played in Maidstone at all. This fixture had been pencilled in as an away trip to Sporting London East Benfica's Rectory Park - it's what this site's own report on the Tooting Bec cup exit gave as Maidstone's next match - before the club confirmed a switch to a home date at the Gallagher Stadium instead. Whatever prompted the change, it suited the hosts: Maidstone won by nine clear goals in front of their own crowd.

The club hasn't yet published a full written match report or goal-by-goal breakdown for the game, so the individual scorers aren't confirmed here - but a 9-0 scoreline needs little further explanation on its own. It's Maidstone's biggest league win of an already strong start to the season, coming five days after a battling 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Tooting Bec ended their run in that competition.
