Maidstone United Women's FA Cup Run Ends at Tooting Bec

Tooting Bec 2-0 Maidstone United

Women's FA Cup Second Qualifying Round | Tooting and Mitcham Community Sports Hub | Sunday, 20th September 2026
Maidstone gave a good account of themselves without finding the breakthrough in a fragmented first half. Excellent interplay down the left released Ascott in the 36th minute, but her effort went off target, and moments later Megan Wood switched play to send Ascott clean through, only for the Tooting goalkeeper to gather comfortably. Right on the stroke of half-time, Ascott headed the ball into Tori Campbell's path, but her attempted lob narrowly missed - leaving the sides level at the break.
Tooting Bec broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half, a disputed free-kick - contested by both benches - breaking through Maidstone's defensive line and being clinically finished past goalkeeper Cara Davies. The Stones' afternoon worsened soon after when Davies raced out to block a through ball, was booked for handling outside the box, and had to leave the field injured, with Annie White taking over in goal. White was called into action immediately, denying Tooting from the resulting free-kick and later making an important one-on-one save. Maidstone pushed hard for an equaliser late on - Fox rolled an effort just wide, Manktelow struck the crossbar from range, and Fox's follow-up to the rebound was superbly saved - but with the Stones committed forward in search of a leveller, Tooting broke the offside trap in stoppage time to seal a 2-0 win and end Maidstone's cup run.
