Maidstone United Held to a Replay by Cray Wanderers in the FA Cup

Cray Wanderers: Rob Strachan (83')

Maidstone United: Tom Leahy (71')

Cray Wanderers, who play a level below Maidstone in the Isthmian Premier League, gave the National League South leaders a real game at Flamingo Park. The Wands had the better of the opening exchanges, and only a smart save from Lenny Holden kept out an early curling effort from Ola Ogunwamide. Maidstone's clearest first-half chances came from set pieces and quick breaks - Taylor Foran headed narrowly wide from a Riley Court delivery, and Ken Charles forced a save from Cray goalkeeper JJ Briggs shortly before the interval.

The breakthrough came on 71 minutes, when Court's corner found Leahy, who forced the ball through a crowd of players and may have taken a slight deflection on its way in. Maidstone almost doubled their lead soon after - Leahy struck the post from a tight angle, and substitute Stan Leech, making his debut since arriving on a three-month loan from Dagenham & Redbridge, was denied by Briggs moments later. But with seven minutes left, Cray levelled through a Strachan header from a corner, taking the tie to a replay.

The draw extends Maidstone's Emirates FA Cup campaign into a second match against Cray Wanderers, now confirmed for Tuesday 22 September at Gallagher Stadium. Source: maidstoneunited.co.uk
