Maidstone United Knocked Out of FA Cup by Cray Wanderers for Second Year Running

Maidstone United 0-2 Cray Wanderers

FA Cup Second Qualifying Round Replay | Gallagher Stadium | Tuesday, 22nd September 2026
Cray Wanderers: Ola Ogunwamide (21'), Ade Yusuff (90+5')
A National League South leader can afford a bad cup night more than most, and that's essentially what Maidstone got at the Gallagher Stadium: a below-par performance against opponents from a division below, undone by one moment of real quality and a sucker-punch in stoppage time. Ola Ogunwamide, Cray's best player on the night by some distance, curled the game's only clear moment of class beyond Lenny Holden midway through the first half and then hit the bar with a near-identical effort shortly after - the kind of finishing Maidstone's own front line never quite matched, despite chances of their own either side of half-time.
Craig Fagan rang the changes from Saturday's draw, and his side had spells of control without ever really threatening to force the tie their way - a Riley Court header early in the second half needed a smart save to keep it out, and Ade Yusuff twice had to be denied by Holden late on before finally beating him in the fifth minute of stoppage time to settle it. It leaves Maidstone out of the FA Cup at the same stage as last season, though with their league form untouched - they're still top of National League South, with the Truro City visit on Saturday the priority now.
