Maidstone United bounced back in style with a 3–1 win over AFC Totton at the Gallagher Stadium, completing a league double over their opponents and keeping their play-off hopes firmly on track.
The Stones started brightly, moving the ball with confidence and creating early openings. Jephte Tanga looked lively from the outset, driving into the box inside the opening minutes, while Jamie Yila and Ralph Vigrass both had sights of goal as Maidstone settled into a good rhythm.
Totton showed their threat too, going close through Tony Lee, whose long-range volley drifted just wide with the keeper beaten. But Maidstone continued to look the more composed side, and their pressure paid off late in the first half.
A well-worked move down the flank ended with the ball being delivered into the area, where George Fowler rose well to head home and give the hosts a deserved lead heading into the break.
The second half initially lacked the same tempo, with fewer clear-cut chances, but Maidstone still looked in control. That changed on 70 minutes when Totton found a way back into the game. A corner caused problems in the box, and Christie Ward’s close-range header was judged to have crossed the line to level things up.
Rather than letting the setback affect them, Maidstone responded almost immediately. Fresh legs made the difference, as a quick attacking move saw John Gilbert take his chance clinically, restoring the lead with just over ten minutes to play.
From there, the Stones pushed to kill the game, and they did exactly that in the closing stages. A driving run forward led to a saved effort, but Tanga reacted quickest, smashing home the rebound to seal the result.
It was a strong, composed performance from Maidstone, who showed both quality and resilience. With goals spread across the team and a positive response after conceding, this was exactly the kind of result needed to keep momentum going at a crucial stage of the season.
