Plans for a new lakeside apartment development in Snodland have been approved, despite objections from local residents.
The site, located north of Cemetery Road, has planning consent for 33 apartments arranged across several blocks beside a man-made lake. Parking would be accessed from Cemetery Road, with the tallest elements of the scheme positioned closest to the water.
Concerns raised during the planning process focused on the scale of the buildings, their visual impact on the lakeside setting, and potential effects on wildlife and local infrastructure. Residents also questioned whether the development fits the character of the surrounding area.
The local planning authority resolved to grant permission, subject to a legal agreement, citing the ongoing need to deliver new housing.
The decision reflects a wider pattern seen across West Kent, where towns including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells are seeing continued pressure for new residential development as councils work to meet housing targets while balancing local concerns.
With approval now in place, the scheme can move forward once remaining conditions are completed.
