Historic Sevenoaks Building Converted Into Flats as Naming Debate Continues

A Grade II listed building in Sevenoaks has now been fully converted into residential flats, with work on the property appearing close to completion.
The building, which dates back several centuries and was previously used as a hotel, has undergone extensive internal changes as part of the redevelopment. While its listed exterior remains intact, the project has drawn attention locally due to concerns about how the site’s long history will be reflected once residents move in.
At this stage, the conversion itself is no longer in question. Instead, discussion has focused on the proposed naming of the development and whether it adequately acknowledges the building’s historic identity and past use.
Sevenoaks Town Council has noted the importance of recognising local heritage, particularly when historic buildings are repurposed, even when redevelopment complies with planning and conservation rules.
With the flats nearing readiness, the site is expected to become part of the town’s residential fabric, marking the next chapter for one of Sevenoaks’ older buildings.
