Flood Alert Issued as Rising River Medway Affects Parts of Tonbridge

A flood alert has been issued for areas around Tonbridge after rising water levels along the River Medway, with local parks and football pitches among the areas affected.
According to the Environment Agency’s flood alert service, water levels in the River Medway are elevated following recent rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding to low-lying land close to the river. In Tonbridge, this has already led to visible flooding across riverside green spaces, including parkland and nearby sports pitches.
Photos taken locally show standing water covering large sections of grassed areas, making them unusable and raising concerns for clubs and residents who regularly use the facilities. While no residential flooding has been reported at this stage, the Environment Agency advises that river levels may remain high and could rise further depending on weather conditions.
Flood alerts are issued to warn people to be prepared for possible flooding, particularly affecting fields, footpaths, parks, and roads close to the river. Residents and visitors are being urged to avoid flooded areas, not to attempt to walk or drive through standing water, and to stay informed via official updates.
The alert covers stretches of the Medway through and around Tonbridge, where flooding is a familiar issue during prolonged wet periods. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation, and residents are encouraged to remain cautious until water levels subside.
