Edenbridge Leisure Centre is set for one of its biggest investment programmes since opening, after Sevenoaks District Council agreed plans to spend around £2.2 million on improvements up to 2027.
The decision was made by the Council’s Cabinet on 16 June 2026 and is aimed at securing the long-term future of the centre, which is used by residents from Edenbridge and surrounding villages.
The programme is being described as a “renew and replenish” investment, with money focused on essential upgrades rather than a full rebuild. The aim is to improve key parts of the building, replace ageing equipment and make sure the leisure centre can continue operating properly in the years ahead.
The newly approved works include major improvements to the wet-side changing village, with new lockers, flooring and upgraded facilities. The sports hall roof is also due to be replaced, which should help protect year-round use for sport, clubs and community activities.
There will also be investment in mechanical and electrical systems, including replacement boilers, heating, ventilation and improvements to the building management system. The main entrance is also expected to be upgraded.
The latest funding follows work already carried out over the past year, including a refurbished gym, new fitness equipment, a cycle studio and café area.
Sevenoaks District Council says the investment is designed to target the areas that matter most to users and can be delivered within a realistic timescale. The council will also continue looking for external funding, including Community Infrastructure Levy contributions from developers, to support further improvements. This could include future investment in the all-weather pitch, subject to additional drainage surveys.
The funding is expected to come from a mix of existing council budgets, investment from leisure operator Everyone Active and a possible £1 million developer contribution, which still needs to be considered by the Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Committee.
The decision also comes ahead of local government reorganisation, with the council saying it wants to renew important parts of the centre before responsibility passes to a new unitary authority.
For local residents, the announcement should mean better changing rooms, more reliable facilities and a stronger future for a centre that provides swimming pools, a gym, fitness studios and a sports hall.
The total investment in Edenbridge Leisure Centre between 2025 and 2027 is expected to be approximately £2.2 million.
