Eastbourne Borough 3-1 Maidstone United
National League South | Connect Management Stadium | Tuesday 10th February 2026
Eastbourne Borough: G. Alexander (48' 83') K. Corbett (86')
Maidstone United: L. Hamblin (4')
For the second consecutive match, Maidstone United struck first - and for the second consecutive match, they came away empty-handed.
The Stones made a dream start at the Connect Management Stadium, taking the lead inside four minutes. A loose touch in midfield allowed Maidstone to pounce, and after neat build-up play, Leo Hamblin kept his composure to slide the ball beneath Woody Williamson for his first goal in club colours.
At that point, the visitors looked sharp and purposeful. Jamie Yila, making his full debut, showed early confidence and energy, weaving past defenders and delivering dangerous balls into the box. Maidstone controlled much of the first half, though Eastbourne did threaten, particularly when George Alexander capitalised on defensive uncertainty but fired wide.
Just before the break, the home side went close twice in quick succession. Adam May’s effort struck the post after a scramble in the box, offering a warning that Borough were growing into the contest.
Momentum swings after the restart
The turning point came swiftly after half-time. Eastbourne broke with intent, and although Nathan Harness produced a solid save to deny Maxwell Mullins, George Alexander reacted fastest to level from the rebound.
Maidstone responded positively. Jephte Tanga forced Williamson into action following good work from Deon Moore, while Riley Court’s set-piece delivery also demanded an excellent save from the Borough goalkeeper. At that stage, the match felt finely balanced.
But as the clock ticked down, the hosts began to assert themselves. A strike from Archy Taylor rattled the post, signalling the pressure was building.
Late burst seals it
With just seven minutes remaining, Alexander struck again, finishing clinically after sharp approach play down the flank. The forward’s second of the evening swung the momentum decisively.
Moments later, defensive confusion proved costly. A looping clearance dropped awkwardly, and substitute Kai Corbett reacted quickest to guide the ball into an unguarded net and seal the points.
John Gilbert nearly reduced the deficit with an audacious overhead effort that clipped the crossbar, but it summed up Maidstone’s evening - flashes of promise without the reward.
A familiar frustration
For Maidstone, the pattern will be concerning. Bright starts and positive spells are not translating into results, and lapses at key moments are proving decisive.
Eastbourne, meanwhile, capitalised ruthlessly when it mattered most.
