Maidstone's Tudor Park golf hotel has changed hands, after Dubai-based Select Group completed its acquisition of Delta Hotels by Marriott Tudor Park Country Club in Bearsted, on the edge of the town.
The deal, announced back in May, saw Select Group buy Tudor Park from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) and The Baupost Group alongside two sister properties: Delta Hotels Breadsall Priory Country Club in Derbyshire and Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club in Chepstow, Wales. Together the three sites total 380 rooms across more than 900 acres of freehold countryside estate. It follows Select Group's earlier purchases of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Cheshire and Old Thorns Hotel & Resort in Hampshire, taking its UK golf resort portfolio to five properties.
The change of ownership has now reached Maidstone's own paperwork: a new operating company, Select Maidstone OPCO Limited, was incorporated in February ahead of the deal completing and has applied for its own premises licence at the Ashford Road site, currently pending a decision. All three hotels are set to continue operating under the Delta Hotels by Marriott brand, with day-to-day management remaining with Marriott International.
For Maidstone, it's a change of ownership rather than a change of use - Tudor Park's 120 rooms, golf course and country club facilities aren't going anywhere. But it's a reminder that a site many locals think of simply as "the golf hotel" is also a piece of institutional real estate now owned from Dubai, part of a wider pattern of overseas investment interest in UK golf and hospitality assets.
