A much-loved independent retailer in Sevenoaks has announced it will close its doors in 2026, marking the end of more than two decades on the town’s high street.
In a heartfelt
message shared on social media in November 2025, the owners of Danish Collection confirmed that the shop would close in 2026. They cited a steep decline in footfall and the ongoing challenges facing high street stores nationwide.
After more than 20 years in Sevenoaks we have decided to close they wrote. As many high street stores nationwide we have also experienced a steep decline in footfall. We have worked really hard the last couple of years to become a stronger online contender, however we have not been successful in replacing lost revenue in-store with online sales.
The announcement has been met with sadness from customers who have supported the business over the years. The shop, known for its distinctive Scandinavian-inspired gifts and brands including Maileg, has been a familiar presence in the town and a part of many family milestones.
In their statement, owners Judith and Leo reflected on the personal connections built through the shop. They described sharing in engagements, weddings and births, watching children grow up, and even supporting customers through difficult times.
In short we have been part of a community. For that, simply THANK YOU, they wrote.
They also paid tribute to their long-standing team, highlighting the loyalty of staff members who have been with them for over 20 years, as well as thanking suppliers and sales representatives who supported the business throughout its journey.
Posters advertising up to 70% off can now be seen in the shop window, signalling a closing-down sale as the final chapter begins.
For many residents, the closure represents more than just the loss of a shop - it marks the end of a small but meaningful part of Sevenoaks’ independent retail identity.
Judith and Leo said their hearts will always stay in Sevenoaks, the town where they built their life and raised their son.
