Chippenham Town F.C. 1–0 Maidstone United F.C.: Late Blow Extends Stones’ Slump

Chippenham Town 1-0 Maidstone United

National League South | The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium | Saturday 14th February 2026
Chippenham Town: H. Parsons (96')
There was heartbreak deep into stoppage time at Hardenhuish Park as a 96th-minute goal condemned Maidstone United to a third straight defeat in the National League South.
Just as the Stones looked set to leave Wiltshire with a point, Luke Haines’ long throw caused chaos in the box and Harry Parsons forced the ball home to secure a dramatic 1–0 win for Chippenham Town.

Stones Pay the Price Late On

The result leaves Maidstone with just one win in their last seven matches. More concerning, the past two defeats have come away to sides battling in the bottom four - results that have dented play-off ambitions. The Stones now sit 13th, eight points off the top seven.
In truth, Maidstone created enough chances to take something from the game.
Early on, Leo Hamblin drove to the byline before Sam Corne saw an effort deflected wide. Chippenham responded with Caine Bradbury firing over when well placed.
Muhammadu Faal was heavily involved throughout the first half, testing Will Henry with a low drive after being picked out by Jamie Yila. John Gilbert later had the ball in the net after lifting Corne’s effort home, but the flag was already up.

Second-Half Momentum Shifts

The Stones enjoyed a positive spell after the break. Faal forced another smart save from Henry and TJ Bramble dragged a shot wide after good work from Hamblin.
But as the half wore on, Chippenham grew stronger.
Former Maidstone man Sol Wanju-Smith delivered a cross that led to substitute Anointed Chukwu striking the post with 12 minutes remaining - a warning sign the visitors failed to heed.
Maidstone still threatened on the counter, with Hamblin trying his luck from distance late on. Yet the final word belonged to the hosts.
Deep into added time, Haines launched one last long throw into the box. In the ensuing scramble, Parsons reacted quickest to bundle the ball in and snatch all three points.

Play-Off Push Under Pressure

It was a cruel ending for Maidstone, who had defended resolutely for much of the contest. But football at this level is unforgiving, and late lapses are proving costly.
With momentum slipping and rivals picking up points, the Stones will need a swift response if their promotion hopes are to remain alive.
