Angels’ Winning Run Ends at Chesham

Chesham United 1-0 Tonbridge Angels

National League South | The Meadow | Saturday 28th March 2026 | Attendance: 752
Chesham United: A. Williams (62')
Tonbridge Angels saw their three-match winning streak come to an end as they slipped to a narrow 1–0 defeat away at Chesham United.
The home side came out fast and aggressive, testing the Angels defence from the very first minute. Jayden Bennetts forced an early save from Matt Rowley, setting the tone for a lively opening spell. Chesham kept the pressure on, but Rowley stayed sharp, dealing confidently with a series of efforts.
As the half wore on, Tonbridge began to settle. Bailey Akehurst came closest with a long-range strike that took a deflection and threatened to trouble the keeper. Both sides traded chances, with Ethan Sutcliffe and Akehurst firing over, while Rowley was again called into action to deny Bennetts and Giorgio Rasulo.
Just before the break, Bunmi Babajide won a free-kick on the edge of the box, but Akehurst’s delivery flashed across goal without a finishing touch. A late attempt from Nazir Bakrin lacked power and was comfortably saved, leaving the game finely balanced at half-time.
The Angels started the second half with intent, getting shots on target early on, though nothing that seriously troubled Ben Goode in the Chesham goal.
The decisive moment came just after the hour mark. A loose ball fell kindly inside the area, and Alfie Williams reacted quickest, firing a powerful strike past Rowley to give the hosts the lead.
Both teams made changes as the game opened up, but clear chances became harder to come by. Chesham nearly added a second late on through Alex Babos, whose effort flashed across goal, while Tonbridge pushed forward in the closing minutes in search of an equaliser.
Despite their efforts, the visitors couldn’t find a breakthrough, with the Chesham defence standing firm to secure all three points.
It’s a frustrating result for Tonbridge, who had been building momentum in recent weeks, but the performance still showed enough to suggest they won’t be off the pace for long.
